With no hope remaining for this season, the 49ers look to the future - but that does not mean this season is a wash. This season will be an important evaluation period.
Alright you’ve convinced me about Moore and maybe The coaching staff is progressing that direction.
McKivitz should see action as a backup over any vets at this point.
Glinch needs Kittle in pass protection.
Richie James is an interesting one that I’m unsure about his consistency.
Kinlaw steps the run...we have to wait till next year to see if his pash rushing improves. Solomon is a different player...those numbers are not comparable as you eluded too. Street Might still be at a rookie stage of learning but might be too far behind due to injury. Good read and great tidbits in there to think about.
Last year I thought we had a couple of weaknesses. We signed all our starts except Buck and Sanders. We now have weaknesses all over the shop. It's somewhat unfathomable how much the world has crashed around us.
I didn't like the Kinlaw pick just as the Solly pick, same issues and worse Lynch even said they didn't really want him it was Koureck. Screams the Joe Williams problem and early day noise of our FO undermining scouts. I don't think we're approaching the top end of the draft correctly, at all. Mid-late rnd picks are fine but we're wasting potential talent with these 1st rnd picks failing (hopefully Aiyuk will break the mold).
What are your thoughts on Armstead? I think he's been a ghost and without Bosa taking attention away at edge, Armstead just isn't scary enough to free up Kinlaw.
I think we could easily cut 20 players this year and not get worse (well, we're pretty much down 20 players now anyway)
I tend not to like articles like these, because they infuse the fanbase with a sense of worry that may or may not be valid and tend to be too prone to recency bias. One thing I agree with is that Tarvarius Moore should be playing more- other than a few very costly tackling routes last year, he's been an exciting player.
However, I disagree with Brunskill and Armstead, for pretty much one reason- they're being asked to provide depth in places they shouldn't be the ones to fill. Brunskill held down the fort admirably last season against LT against everyone except Aaron Donald, yet he's being asked to play RG and C with no OTAs. Dee Ford's been a whiff, but if it wasn't for a freak ACL tear, Armstead would be producing tremendously on the interior on pass-rushing downs, just like last year. Kinlaw hasn't produced, but don't talk to me about alarm bells until his pressure rates stop being among rookie leaders- bulk stats don't generally do a great job at evaluating performance.
This year very well may be a wash, but every team will ebb and flow, and I think it would be ridiculous to say anything other than we're hitting the bottom of our downturn. We may be in a Warriors-esque season, but in that case, there's little reason to doubt that we'll again be able to compete with the NFC elite in a season that's not so horribly uneven.
I think Kinlaw is fine. Thomas had Buckner beside him, while Kinlaw is expected to replace Buckner. People cut Thomas some slack for arriving at Camp late, but Kinlaw had no camp/preseason at all. Maybe deduct his first 4 games from the tally for preseason and redo this assessment in week 13? The comparisons are even less fair than justifying Armstead’s shitty drop off in form for the injuries around him. He’s enough of a vet to do WAY better. Just yesterday there was an article on how Buckner had massively elevated the Colts D-line. Kinlaw doesn’t have that help. And he’s lost what would have been his greatest supports in Bosa, Ford and Thomas—and Armstead is playing like his mother!
In fact, I’m so happy with Kinlaw, I think I might buy his jersey! 🙌

Armstead is another guy. hes only good when he is surrounded by better players. Sucks we paid him so much because he is not going to live up to it.
