He was a statue - exited the pocket 3 times total. All game. Embarrassing. 2 were near interceptions, one of them was a pick that was bailed out by an unrelated pass interference, and the other time was a 9 yard rush.
Mine watched the games with me all day, and even had me bring in 2 more TVs to the living room, for more games. But I really should go an spend time with her, but I can't tear myself away from here. Lol
Bourne was open A LOT. Jimmy just didn't see him or sailed the ball over his head. I'm not saying he's a #1, but he played a lot better than the stat line suggests.
Early thoughts: Yes there was some bad luck. Refs extended a certain drive way too long. Punt got blocked. But they also lucked out in Arizona missing two field goals. With both those in mind, the 49er did deserve to lose.
Shanny was fine. Not a standout day, but he made the best out of having a third string center and what should be our two best receivers out. At least nothing super egregious that really made me angry. Maybe the 4th down call but that's more hindsight for me. I wanted that at the time. If Jimmy doesn't throw so many wobblers at the end, or move around a bit earlier on, we win. Week 1 is always janky but it was a bad start for him. At least he didn't get picked I guess. But that's hard to do when you're not on the field.
Defense, our guys are bad at playing contain. You have to handle pass rush differently against someone that willing to run and we let the squirrel scramble too much. They also spent too much time on the field since offense couldn't convert a 3rd down. They started off well, and got tired and hit by flags (some deserved, some not, but that's football).
At least the Jets are next. Should be a perfect bounce back week
Personally, I think Shanahan was Terrible. As bad as Garoppolo. He needs to slap himself as much as the team. Why tf did they stop running on the last drive when running was the ONLY thing working?! Get to the red zone and then have a bunch of shitty incompletions.
Tomsula would’ve taken the FG with 1.50 to go to try and get it back and win it on the next drive!!
It's one game... with key pieces missing. I won't panic until we've got some of those pieces back and still stink it up. But did feel like the bad bits from last year (letting running QBs convert stupid and long) are still there but with less of the good bits.
Jimmy has gotten criticism on his deep ball in the past, but "wobbler" was an understatement. Those weren't even wounded ducks, they were dead turkeys. Was it a tough game with bad circumstances, yes? But, it was like watching rookie throws when it came down to winning the game. Jimmy isn't bad...but, he looked bad enough to give all his doubters credence. I feel kinda dumb for having supported him thus far.
It's sad but true. I was a big Jimmy supporter for all of last year. I'm one of those who doesn't blame him for the SB loss. But not sure what happened this game. Jimmy made too many misses, not just bad throws but missing wide open guys.
Yeah same. I wanted to see what he looked like after a full off-season. But he looked unbelievably awful today. I think those last two throws have me off the bandwagon for him. Those are throws every NFL qb has to be able to make. He doesn't just look like he's stalled his progression, he looks like he's regressed.
Ill tell you - last year was a mirage - bold take but it was, Jimmy G is the same player - the further he gets from New England, the more he regresses because Shanahan doesnt chide his terrible habit of throwing off his back foot
Hes not Pat Mahomes, he doesnt have that type of arm
You're right, I think he's been continuing to regress since he got here. He was great in 2017, seemed to regress some prior to injury in 2018, had some good games mixed in with some generally even play last year. The hope was that he would have time to really get a good handle on the playbook, be fully recovered from his ACL, and progress to 2017 levels (and beyond). But he really hasn't. His bad qualities have magnified (poor accuracy, poor arm strength) while his good qualities have stalled.
There's a bit of situational coaching to be done - how to get those 50:50 calls. Could Bourne have got a PI on that late end zone if he'd done something different like a wily old veteran? Doesn't excuse the poor throw...
That was disappointing. It wasn't a great game for really anybody, but if I had to point to the biggest reason why we lost, it would be Jimmy. He wasn't sharp out there at all, even without the lack of receiving weapons.
I expected it to be a close game given there was no preseason and we were missing a few key guys, but I thought our execution would be good enough to win the game. It just wasn't. Hopefully it's a wake up call. Onto the next one.
Part of that was gameplan though, most of that was not Mosley truly getting beat in coverage. Saleh had Mosley giving up 10-15 yards of cushion to Hopkins, and Murray took the easy completions for 5-10 yards.
Welp, season over. That was fun.
overreaction season is amazing
in all honesty im worried
I'm worried too. This game felt a lot like the niners teams we watched in 2018. it didn't feel good.
It felt like the early 2017 Niners where we had QB incompetence and we kept losing close games.
I would actually not be upset, if we tanked for Trevor Lawrence.
I would not be surprised if we look at someone like Trey Lance
F*** what happened out there with Jimmy. Reminded me of Gabbert. OMG I just said that.

At least 2 of the sacks were completely on him with his ignoring the pass rushers around him and trying to bail too late.
Yall have fun, I am going to enjoy time with the gf.
Mine watched the game with me. Nyah nyah.
Mine watched the games with me all day, and even had me bring in 2 more TVs to the living room, for more games. But I really should go an spend time with her, but I can't tear myself away from here. Lol
hehe
Arizona appeared to have an answer to everything apart from 1 mistake on Mostert TD.
Keep in mind, they missed 2 FGs as well - they are much better than this and made so many mistakes too. Scary to think about.
Bourne is nothing but an average #3, Pettis is Pettis, Jimmy regressed.
Trevor Lawrence time
Lawrence would be amazing but we aren't that bad
i think

Terrible take

Yeah the Jets game should be straight forward. If that ones close, the meltdown is going to be incredible
If it isn't, it probably will be time to call up the Packers for you know who.
Test
20 minutes later thoughts: That fucking sucked.

yup - defense barely got any pressure and murray tore us up with Hopkins.

that was the worst wobbler ive seen him throw - what happened to his arm
There were a few in the TC videos that wibbled a bit but yes, that one was a shocker.
he's had zero velocity on his throws because he just refuses to step into throws
its maddening
It was secretly replaced by new and improved Folger's Crystals.
It didn't seem like an arm strength issue, more like a bad decision in throwing a touch pass instead of slinging it to Bourne.
Felt like he aimed that throw lol
he overthinks stuff. and doesnt have the arm talent to make up for his slow mental processing
That was disappointing. It wasn't a great game for really anybody, but if I had to point to the biggest reason why we lost, it would be Jimmy. He wasn't sharp out there at all, even without the lack of receiving weapons.

I really really really hate BOB for trading Hopkins away for nothing.
150+ yards he terrorized us
Moseley was burnt toast today
No one must have thought to call the Texans and offer up a trade for Hopkins, in return for a bunch of garbage.
Because I would have given them a hell of a lot more for him.
We could have easily offered Buckner straight up and it was a better package.
Part of that was gameplan though, most of that was not Mosley truly getting beat in coverage. Saleh had Mosley giving up 10-15 yards of cushion to Hopkins, and Murray took the easy completions for 5-10 yards.
Obligatory comment so Riqo doesn't show up at my door with maximum prejudice.
this.... is allowed
dammit
I'll show up with pride (and a bidet)
No snaps under centre due to Grassu playing. Killed the PA opportunities.
even with the PA, zero rollouts or designed throws on the run - limited offense due to Jimmy arm and due to bad OL
Losing sucks
There's still 18-1.
0-16 for life!!!!
trade everyone blow it up 🙃
