Riqonator, say KS loves Zach Wilson, don't you think the Jets would just draft him if thatbwas the case? Lafluer has been doing evaluations along side Kyle so long I doubt they are far off
I put Lance and Wilson pretty equal. Lance is a wild-card because of experience but he showed some shockingly elite stuff in film during 2019. And he was 19 years old at the time. Love his ability to go through progressions, and his arm talent off the charts.
It sucks, but it would have been much worse if they had taken Watson... in the end they are the SOSARS, and they are in win now mode since 4 years, unsuccessfully. What really sucks is to be in a division like the West when some teams have an almost guaranteed division title like the Packers, or a complete mess like the East. I don't think we can be a real contender next year, unless a lot of things go the right way. Really A LOT. The trade for Watson could be very expensive, but it doesn't depend by the Texans, it depends by how many bidder they can find. In the end they have some leverage against Watson, but he has too, and if they want maximize the gain they need the trade now, next year it will be much worse for them. So it depends how much the Jets and Miami really want Watson. Or maybe Indy. All the other options, stay with Jimmy or draft a top four QB, are heavy bets and they needs a lot of things going the right way to be long term successfull. In the end there is not a "safe way", and that's life... I love so much Jimmy, but I would go all-in for Watson or grab Trey Lance (or who Kyle prefers) no matter what, releasing Jimmy and spending the 26 mil for FA players (and playing the season with Lance-Rosen-CJ considering it a rebuild year, fixing the OL now and the other positions next year). Off course it is only for speaking, I hope the FO will make the right choice whatever it will be.
Carson Wentz was the QB for the eagles that year. Foles played like a super star in the playoffs, and was better than the corpse of Eli Manning by far.
Trent Dilfer wasnt the worst. Tim Couch, Akili Smith, and others were in that same division.
Peyton fits. Think about how talented that defense had to be to make up for him. That’s an all time defense and a defense we aren’t gonna be fielding next season.
Brad Johnson was a pro bowl QB in 2002 and better then rookie Mike Vick, Aaron brooks, and Rodney Peete by far.
I think the doom and gloom here and at NN is waaayyy overboard. People act like the Rams just got patrick mahomes, they didn't. If Stafford is the second coming of Joe Montana why has he never won shit. Look at Wilson for example. His team is way worse than the lions but he elevates them tobthe playoffs almost every year. Stafford gets his team a top 10 pick. The niners went to the Super bowl last year with "the worst qb in the division" ya'll need to simmer down.
SF is going to be competing no doubt. Stafford ain’t all that. The problem is that the Rams were really good when not being held back by QB play. Now that they’ve got someone who could do more than just keep them afloat, it’s big.
Stafford is REALLY good QB, imo. Might have even had a HOF career if he had landed with a better org than the Lions. He's a big upgrade from Goff.
That said, this move pushes the Rams to $32M over the salary cap, and they still have to sign a draft class, fill their roster, and create enough cap space to survive midseason injuries. Stafford will need a new deal in the next 16 months as well. They are going to have to shed good players. So this deal makes them better at the most important position, but FAR worse across the board. I don't really think they'll be better.
Yeah, this trade has bought out some of the dumbest takes I've ever seen in 8+ years at NN. "4-12 here we come."
"This is why Lynch and Shanahan will never win a Super Bowl."
"We need to give up whatever it take to get Watson."
If healthy, the 49ers have the best roster in the NFC West, period. Yes, I'd trade Garoppolo straight up for Stafford, Kyler, or Wilson. But you don't win simply because you have the better QB, or Stafford wouldn't have a record of 74-90. Watson wouldn't have gone 4-12 this year. We've got the better team, and even with Garoppolo being a severely flawed QB we will win the NFCW as long as health permits.
Your point about unloading Goff's contract freeing up a ton of future cap doesn't really hold up. Stafford will require a new contract sooner than later. POOF, there goes all the cap space they freed up. They're just swapping one "Franchise QB" contract for another. In reality they are now $32M over the 2021 cap, still have a draft class to sign, roster depth to fill, and will need some space to cover midseason injuries. Bye bye literally everyone who isn't Stafford, Donald, or Ramsey. SOSAR.
That's the thing though, they already had quite a bit of future cap. Freeing up even more is going to be key. They might reconstruct Stafford and extend him this season along with other deals. Most of their guys on defense are cheap, rookie contracts
Everyone should stop freaking out, Rams still have $33mil worth of cuts to make pre-3/7. That’s a lot of guys. They may be marginally better, but I don’t expect anything except another 9-7 season with us sweeping them.
Hawks are on decline, Pete the Cheat is abandoning the scheme towards a run-heavy offense, and Russ got cooked at the end of 2020. Cards have another year before they are real contenders, but they’ll get there eventually.
I’m seriously pondering something — and that is whether we should keep Trent Williams or not. If we let him walk ;( then we would have the funds to bring back Verrett, Moseley, and K’waun/Juice. Then I would think we draft Garrisaw or similar at 12ish, maybe a tb first. I just don’t know. If we do let him walk, then we NEED to hit on LT in the 1st. If we don’t, I just feel like it’s a big problem on our hands. I’m thinking I wonder if we tag-and-trade? Could we?
As for Jimmy, he’s good and serviceable, not elite. I think he indeed stays as QB this year, but I think a Shanahan’s QBOTF will come in 21/22 draft. Don’t know when (and I really don’t think it’s Lance) but I know it will happen soon.
Additionally, on the Jimmy topic, I think he bounces back big in ‘21 for two reasons: 1) OL gets fixed and bolstered in draft, helps keep him upright and 2) Scangarello’s returning should get him to click again, I remember hearing that they worked really well together.
Welp, just a blurb from someone who’s probably clueless LOL. Whatever. Go Niners!
It's hard to expect a rookie LT to fill in automatically. On one hand they could be like Wirfs, or they could be like Andrew Thomas. It's certainly interesting.
Man, this sucks. I'm down about this. Maybe Jimmy can elevate his game. We shall see!
Pretty much the only option. Niners have to be looking really hard at Wilson and Lance right now though.
Riqonator, say KS loves Zach Wilson, don't you think the Jets would just draft him if thatbwas the case? Lafluer has been doing evaluations along side Kyle so long I doubt they are far off
That’s the fear. But I don’t think SF can go wrong with Lance or Wilson frankly
Please apply for Kyle Poseys job. At the end of anything written by him I am eager to stop visiting NN
I wish 🙂
I’m not super high on Lance and think he’s too big of a wild card. Wilson looks like he’s gonna have a GREAT career though.
I put Lance and Wilson pretty equal. Lance is a wild-card because of experience but he showed some shockingly elite stuff in film during 2019. And he was 19 years old at the time. Love his ability to go through progressions, and his arm talent off the charts.
Do you think any of the roomie QBs will be better than Murray? Because if not we still have the worse QB in the division.
Either way we are going to have it. But you draft a guy in hopes that in a year or two that’s no longer the case, no?
It sucks, but it would have been much worse if they had taken Watson... in the end they are the SOSARS, and they are in win now mode since 4 years, unsuccessfully. Name a team that won the Super Bowl with the worst QB in their division? I’ll wait.
Nick Foles - Eagles
Peyton Manning - Broncos
Trent Dilfer - Ravens
Brad Johnson - Bucs
Carson Wentz was the QB for the eagles that year. Foles played like a super star in the playoffs, and was better than the corpse of Eli Manning by far.
Trent Dilfer wasnt the worst. Tim Couch, Akili Smith, and others were in that same division.

Outside of Peyton none of these work.
Joe Flaco is another case
How long must the 49ers suffer with brlow average qb play
Sounds like we need to improve our pass rush
Kinlaw needs to break out
Bosa should help, but honestly bad year 1. 3 tech is hard though especially during wide 9 sets, it usually takes 2 years

i'm just really pointing out that they basically improved their situation everywhere just by sheer upgrade
Nice to see a lot of traffic around here!
