well, I mean, what is Shanny supposed to say. I don't buy it personally. I wouldn't be terrible upset if we went into next season with Garoppolo but my general view is that where there's smoke there's fire. a lot of smoke right now.
He’s just trying to say something while saying nothing but it does seem that he basically fumbled his words around trying to explain that they can not settle for Jimmy even more youth Jimmy has been a winner. They going to move forward with Jimmy but they are certainly going to be bringing in competition and or a rookie to hopefully push Jimmy!
I think the reality is, he really doesn't know. I'm sure he's somewhere between open and eager to upgrade, but probably hasn't had time to put any real thought into what the options might be.
It's our job to wait, wonder and argue with each other acting as if we know something. :)
He probably could not say anything different at this moment. It will be argument for comments and conversations for the next 5 months, but we should always consider that the picture is incomplete from our point of view. The FO knows, or at least they should know, what are the real physical conditions of the players. This is the real unknown about a lot of players : Richburg, Ford, Garoppolo, Bosa, Blair are all players of a winning team, but can they be healty for the next season ? If they know the (right) answer they can make a program for FA and Draft, if they still don't know this and they can't know before March it will be a very hazardous season for the team. If we can count on all these players JimmyG is still the safe bet for a SB run, but if we have to release Richburg, Ford, and there is uncertainty about Bosa and Blair our SB windows is closed, because we don't have enough cap for all the players we need, and maybe an investment in Wilson or Lance could be more productive long term.
Jimmy G. wins football games. Winning football games is what the NFL is all about. The wins may not all be pretty, but they are wins. Is Jimmy perfect, no he is not, but neither is any other QB, they ALL make some questionable throws. I do believe that Shanny knows that he can win Super Bowls with Jimmy and he will stick with Jimmy. We all know how difficult it is to learn Kyle's offense, so switching QB basically throws away a season until the new QB is comfortable in Kyle's system and I don't believe that Shanalynch are going to throw away a season when they already have a QB that wins games and can win a Super Bowl.
How is McGlinchey NOT a bust? He was the 9th overall pick and is absolute horseshit. Last year he was a liability in pass protection, but a good run blocker. This year his run blocking sucks too. His play this year is indefensible. Again, 9TH OVERALL PICK. He's a bust.
him and Trent Williams are the highest graded run blockers in football right now. I wouldn't say they suck. However, you are right about the pass protection, and he has shown bad things run blocking as well. He has a top 5 "blown" block rate in pass pro and run blocking among starting RTs. Williams, as you'd guess, does not.
I don't know if he's a bust. But he's really, really close to it in my mind - but Pat thinks different of course.

This. He said a bunch of things which in combination don’t really mean anything. I guess we will know soon enough
I love Draft Day. I watch it every April.
Watching Draft Day on Draft Day is my Draft Day ritual.
