Breaking: 49ers extend Kyle Juszczyk, locking up the best FB in the league long-term.
The offensive weapon will be back for the 49ers in 2021, in a move sure to make the fanbase happy.
Santa Clara, CA - Following the extension of Emmanuel Moseley yesterday, the 49ers front office reportedly got to work per Ian Rapaport on extending their trio of main free agents: superstar OT Trent Williams, Jason Verrett, and Kyle Juszczyk. The latter was hinted at in a cryptic tweet by John Lynch late Saturday night:
And this Sunday evening, RapSheet confirmed what was expected following the above tweet:

This is good value - although Juice is a fullback, he’s the best FB in the league undoubtedly and brings a ton of value to the 49ers through his blocking, pass-catching ability, and did I mention blocking? The Shanahan offense is the last in the dying breed of offenses that require a FB, and Juszczyk is the best in the business. He’s an integral part of the run game, even if the numbers don’t suggest so.
Coming in around $5.4M per year, this was a slight raise compared to Juice’s last contract which paid KJ around $5.2M per year. Considering how the salary cap has increased, along with a more competitive market considering Mike LaFleur would likely have been interested in bringing him to the San Francisco Jets over on the East Coast - this was good value for Juszczyk, locking him up as a 49er til he’s 34 years old.
Details will come on the exact numbers of the contract later, but for now, celebrate!
Update:
It looks like Juszczyk will carry a cap hit of $5.475M in the 1st year of the contract.

10M being guaranteed is a welcome sight, likely meaning that if something goes wrong later in the contract, the 49ers will not be weighed down by this contract. This contract is also being said to carry many play time incentives and other incentives leading the low guaranteed money number.
That’s the kind of sensible contract we need. Assuming it has opt-outs, it is low risk high upside.
Lots of stuff happening today. I’m personally excited about Ebukam.
